| Greens: |  9/10 | The recent face lift to Green Gables has seen a few greens reconstructed and all for the better. Greens are large and quick although many seemed to vary in speed. Maybe this was new green versus old.
Some unique contours and pin placements can be had. |
| Fairways: | 8/10 | Generous fairways allow you to crank it up.
Stakes markings found at 200, 150, and 100 yards.
A few soft areas on the course where water collected but we were told this would be worked on in the off season. Another year or two and this rating should improve. |
| Tees: | 8/10 | Nice views from many a tee.
Most pins are visible from the tee and any that are not it's still quite obvious where to play your tee shot.
Some tees angle slightly downward which was a bit annoying to me.

| Course Design: | 8/10 | Originally a Stanley Thompson designed course, a face lift has been delivered by Thomas McBroom.
Many of the bunkers have been raised and angled toward the tee. Red PEI sand has been replaced with approved white PGA sand. Some holes have been lengthened.
I wish I would have played Green Gables before the face lift so I could better appreciate the changes. |
| Value for $$$: | 7/10 | Green Gables has moved up the ladder and is now considered to be an elite course on the island. At $100 (including cart) it will probably be worth the dollar when the changes take hold.
A course that is playable by all. |
| Difficulty: | 7/10 | For having six water holes I rarely felt that water came in to play. I'm assuming that was because I was never anywhere near it and that fact may be different for others.
Bunkers are well positioned, but again, I was rarely around them.
The generous fairways soften the difficulty of the course. |
| Scenery: | 8/10 | A few very scenic holes near the ocean and some great views from a few elevated tees.
Underbrush is thick and not worth much of a search if you hit one in. |
| Staff: | 9/10 | Staff was lively, happy, and proud of the course.
Beverage cart was around frequently. |
| Clubhouse: | 8/10 | The clubhouse is well situated overlooking the 18th hole. It's not overly large but it is comfortable and homey.
The pro shop, as in all PEI, is well stocked with clothing but lacks golf equipment beyond basic supplies. |
| Other Intangibles: | 8/10 | Green Gables is a very easy course to navigate. I'm surprised pricing includes cart. There doesn't appear to be much of an option to walk and it would be one of the easier course to do just that.
We had to carry our clubs to our carts which may be difficult for less healthy golfers. A bag drop would be recommended. |

The quality of Green Gables will only improve as the changes made to the course mature. Green Gables is turning the corner and has taken a giant step toward being a big player on the PEI golf scene. |

| Greens: | 7/10 | The large greens were reasonably quick. Some of the newer greens had big contours which opened up the possibilities of substantial breaks. One uphill front-to-back sloped green was especially fun given the back pin placement on the day that we played. There seemed to be a bit of a difference in speed from one green to the next which is likely a result of the creation of some new greens and the reconditioning of others. |
| Fairways: | 7/10 | Most of the fairways were quite wide and with only a couple of minor exceptions, they were in pretty good condition. Holes consistently had 100, 150 and 200 yardage markers in the centre of the fairways. The first cut of rough was normally of a fair width so that when we went beyond the rough, the penalty which was normally to be in dense trees, was one that was deserved. The recent work done on the bunkers was noticeable here as for almost every shot we could easily see where bunkers were ahead. This was achieved mostly by mounding around the bunkers and by banking the backs making them easy to spot. |
| Tees: | 8/10 | Four sets of tee boxes offered the ability to play different lengths to accommodate players of different abilities. All were level, in good condition and clearly identified on the signs. |
| Course Design: | 8/10 | The major renovations recently made to the course have resulted in many holes being very similar to how they were originally designed while also adding elements more common in current course design. Overall, the result is one that makes this course enjoyable to play. It effectively uses the rolling hills common to this area. Most holes did not have significant elevation changes. |
| Value for $$$: | 6/10 | While the course was enjoyable with decent scenery, the cost seemed a little out of proportion when considering other courses on the island. |
| Difficulty: | 7/10 | This was a fair course with wide enough fairways for the average golfer. Well placed bunkers can challenge the better player willing to try for that "perfect" tee shot or trying to go right at a tough pin placement. |
| Scenery: | 8/10 | The setting is beautiful with several holes offering either a view out to the Gulf of St. Lawrence or to closer bodies of water coming in from the gulf. The course wraps around Green Gables house resulting in a couple of holes presenting a clear view. |
| Staff: | 10/10 | Members of staff were very pleasant and quick to respond to any request. Many times throughout the round we were asked how things were and if everything was OK. The beverage cart came around several times. |
| Clubhouse: | 8/10 | The Pro shop was a little on the small side, but it was well stocked. Like other courses on the island, clubs were not sold in the Pro Shop. The upper level had a large bar and seating area with good views of the course in almost every direction. The very large parking lot and long entrance had both been freshly paved and were in fabulous condition. |
| Other Intangibles: | 7/10 | The scorecard, ball washers and other intangibles were all good and nothing was lacking; but for the price I would expect just a little more. Even a modest course booklet with a little more information about each hole would make a difference. |
