The front nine at Craig Wood is open and similar to a links style course. Only upon entering the back nine will you encounter any bite to the course.
The greens are average size ( a few smaller) and appeared in good shape but for some reason I had difficulty adjusting to the speed. I wasn't sure whether it was me or the greens themselves.
Be wary. The second green is driving distance from the first tee and a ball hit a little left could threaten golfers on this putting surface.
For the two mens tees the yardage is quite long. The tips weigh is at 6,800 yards while the whites are just over 6,500. The two ladies tees drop to under 5,500 yards. As well, some of the ladies tees are in rough shape.
Fairways are old style providing many uneven lies and a bumpy ride in a power cart.
The back nine is a much better challenge. The two par threes on the back have exceptional views and pose a good test.
You won't find a washroom on the front nine except if you stop at the clubhouse. There's a washroom on the 15th hole but this may be too late.
The woods can be think on the back and water can only be found on the 17th hole.
Greens can be seen from pretty much every tee and any where you can't you'll see a yellow checkered flag on the fairway (ex. hole #11).
Craig Wood is very reasonably priced and is the best bargain in the Lake Placid area.
