Date: 2012-Oct-12 Review by Dan P
I was pleasantly surprised with the Tecumseh Golf Club. I had played this course about 30 years ago and my memory was very vague. My recollection was not like anything I played this day.
I remember Tecumseh to be flat, no water, and virtually treeless. I was wrong on almost all accounts. Approximately 1/3rd of the holes had water and there were lots of trees bordering most fairways. I was correct in the course being relatively flat.
Rule of thumb for the greens is that they all slope back to front. The one exception that I can remember is hole #7 which is a massively large green that, depending on pin placement, can have one of the longest putts you'll ever attempt.
Surprisingly the courses in the area all seem to be in excellent shape for this time of the year. The fairways at Tecumseh were very good while the rough was lush and thick making a clean fly difficult.
The Tecumseh course is relatively short. The scorecard shows three tee sets but I seem to remember seeing four. The scorecard also indicates four ratings so I am a bit confused.
I didn't seem to have any difficulty reaching the par 5s in two except for hole #13 which has water inside of 100 yards.
The pro shop is a decent size and appears to be well-stocked.
Tecumseh is not very difficult and is an easy walk. Some signage directing between holes would be helpful as there is a couple of places where you can end up at the wrong tee.
I didn't get a chance to look inside the main clubhouse but the outside looks very nice. I remember Tecumseh being a golf and curling club but the curling departed when the original building burnt down in 1987.
I can't think of any signature holes as nothing stood out as dramatic and nothing said as disappointing.
There is a lot of noise on the course as a highway runs alongside the course.
