Date: 2008-Jun-06 Review by Dan P
Greens were a bit long but had recently been aerated. They were of average size and tended to run quite true.
Yardages were well marked by stakes at the side of the fairway. There were no plates found in the centre of the fairway.
Fairways were decent shape and more than acceptable.
Tees were much the same quality as the rest of the playing surface. Three tee boxes to choose from.
The first ten holes are a joy to play. It's a shame the last eight couldn't be constructed on the same rolling hills. The back (newer) nine is much flatter and not as mature. The back tends to have some up and back holes running parallel to each other. I can't say enough about the front nine and would love to double up on this half of the course for a full round.
Mont Ste Marie is a decent hike from any major city in the area. Pricing is standard for this neck of the woods.
Would I come back? Yes. And you guessed it; for the front nine.
Mont Ste Marie offers its challenges. All par 5s are tough to reach in two except hole #1. The first three par 3s are picturesque.
I love playing courses with scenic backdrops and rolling hills. For the most part, Mont Ste Marie offers this.
I wish a more prominent view of the lake was available.
The fellow on the beverage cart told us that a tournament was on and they had requests a server that was fast. I'd never heard of such a request but my playing partner and I were very impressed at the speed and service he provided. Any encounter with staff in both Pro Shop and on course was very friendly.
Large parking lot so there's no concern about finding a spot.
Pro Shop is adequately stocked and tidy. The clubhouse can accommodate a good sized tournament.
Cart paths could need a bit of a touch up.
The course has a nice flow and is easy to navigate.
On course facilities are very clean.
A couple of attempt at visiting Mont Ste Marie was made before we managed to make it. The weather looked mildly threatening at the start of our round but we had no problem with the weather. Haze on the surrounding hills remained throughout the day.
