Beware the bunkers that consume wayward shots at Chateau Cartier Golf Course, a public 18-hole course located along the banks of the Ottawa River. This 6,209 yard, par 70 course borders the back of the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Gatineau-Ottawa. From this scenic, secluded course just 5 km from downtown Ottawa you can see Champlain Bridge and the Peace Tower.

Not much in the way of contours on the greens. Most greens are flat with very little break. Greens were in decent shape but a bit on the small side. No real tough pin placements are possible except near the fringe.
The fairways were in good shape. With constant rain over the past two days I was expecting to see more standing water. There was next to none.
Yardage markers are quite visible. A nice touch is the painted yardage distances on the paved cart paths. You can plan your club selection while you drive.
Average condition tees. Nothing disastrous and nothing spectacular.
The east side of the course is the only piece of the property that has any elevation change. Every effort was made to use this in the course design.
Many holes have out of bounds on the right hand side, no out of bounds on the left. The out of bounds is due to the property and course design, not by choice. Be warned!
The course is located on prime property on the north side on the Ottawa River. I'm guessing this has a bearing in the cost of a round. Pricing is a little steep, probably about $10 more than I would expect to pay for a course of this quality in the Ottawa area.
Holes #5 and #6 run along the shore of the Ottawa River making these two holes quite challenging.
The par 3 17th has a high elevated green making club selection difficult.
The 5 holes located on the south side of the Lower Aylmer Road are a pleasant change from the rest of the course. The remaining holes on the north side of the road are fairly open and you can generally see a few holes over.
We had an early morning tee off so we weren't expecting to see much of the beverage cart. We did see the cart on the back nine.
The attendant in the proshop was friendly and courteous.
The clubhouse was spacious and clean proshop.
The parking lot is large to accommodate visitors to the Chateau Cartier Hotel as well.
My one complaint would be the narrow path leading from the parking lot to the proshop. The wheels of my pull cart barely fit and the path is tight beside the building.
An extremely easy course to navigate. No real need for a power cart. 3 holes near the end of your round can be a bit of a climb so be prepared.
    A few tips:
      1. Try a stay at the beautiful Chateau Cartier Hotel. The golf package is a good deal.
      2. Don't hit right!
