Date: 2007-Jul-02 Review by Dan P
I was pleasantly surprised at the shape and condition of the greens. No complaints except for a few ball marks that some less appreciative golfers left behind. Average speed with a surprisingly nice variety of contours. A few greens had scuff marks from heavy foot drags. Leave your anger at home!
Lots of clover on the fairways. Condition is what you would expect from a rural course.
Two sets of tees for both Men and Women as should be the norm for 9 hole courses. A little uneven in spots and not always much of a variance between tee sets.
Yardage markers are difficult to find unless you know what to look for.
A bit of water with spot placement of bunkers that a rarely a factor. A flat course that's an easy walk.
    A few nice holes:
#2 - short par 4 with a tucked green, but reachable from the tee with a good drive.
#5 - Tricky (and short) par 5 sub 400 yards to hole. No driver required or feasible as hole has two sharp bends. Precision ball placement is a must. Some will like this hole and some will not.
    #7 - Par 3 with a two tiered green.
Exceptional value. A mere $15 for 9 holes on a holiday Monday. Take the family.
Not a challenge for a competent golfer. A great couples course.
Clean and tidy. Not many frills.
Staff in the Pro Shop didn't appear eager to chat.
Grounds crew always gave a friendly nod.
No beverage cart to be found but 9 hole courses rarely has one.
Plain and clean clubhouse. Pro Shop and bar area flow together. Clubhouse is adequate for a small gathering.
    Ball washers available.
No directions around course but none were really needed as the course seemed to have a flow.
Decent scorecard for a small course.
If you're looking for a course to take your non-golfing family and friends then Sandy Row is for you.
A bit of a hike from Ottawa but what you save on green fees far outweighs the cost of gas to get here.
