The greens are slightly larger than normal without much contour. Some rough spots saw us move a ball a few inches sideways to get a cleaner running path. In general, the greens were true.
The flag colour indicated pin position.
The fairways had some rough spots and were quite hard. The yardage markers couldn't be found on hole #15 when we needed them. The fairways get quite tight on the back 9.
The tees were small and narrow. Yardages are significantly off on a number of holes to the point of being ridiculous. On one par 5 into the wind I recorded a 340 yard drive according to the stakes. As best I figure 240 yards. Bring a GPS if you have one.
River's Edge has one of the longest back 9s I've ever played (according to the scorecard). The card says 4,030 yards from the tips. The front 9 is quite open while the back is too tight and repetitive.
The bunkers have defined lips so the use of a lofted iron was necessary. About 1/3 of the holes had water in play.
The course is very flat with no elevation changes.
The price to play is fair and there's not a lot of competition in the area. This is the only 18 hole course around Bancroft.
River's Edge back 9 is extremely tough. With a par 38 it is the longest 9 holes I've very played. Too bad the toughness of the course lies in the narrowness of the fairways. You need to be long and straight. Score on the front and bring lots of golf balls.
I can't say there was any one hole that was memorable, nor can I pick out one that I disliked. When the lots are sold around holes #12 and #13 the landscaping will enhance the scenery. Any wooded areas are extremely thick. Good luck finding anything if you intend to look.
We had a 9:30am game and there was only one person in the clubhouse and saw a couple of maintenance staff on the course. Things were relatively quiet at our time of play. We had the normal courteous service that is offered at most courses.
I was impressed with the inside of the clubhouse. It was clean and tidy. The pro shop offered basic golf supplies.
It would be nice to add some signage to identify where the pro shop is located.
This was one of the few days this summer that long pants could be worn and people wouldn't ask why.
Large estate lots are available for sale and circle holes #12 and #13 but I didn't see any construction so I have no idea how close housing will be to the actual course.
River's Edge appears to be in a tough golf market. The par 38 back 9 is quite a challenge but needs to be made a bit more forgiving.
