From the road the Markdale course looks like it is flat but this is only true for the visible holes, #1 and #9. Every hole between has some sort of up or down.
The course is not overly long at just under 2,800 yards from the tips. The par 5s (holes #1 and #3) are both under 500 yards and can be reached in two by moderately long hitters.
Two of the three par 3s I enjoyed. Hole #2 has a sharp drop-off about half was and the flagstick is extra long so you can see it from the tee. The par 3 7th has an elevated tee but a pond protects the front of the green. Both are challenging holes.
Another nice hole is #5. You can see a lot of danger from the tee so I suggest bailing left.
You may wish to use an iron off the 6th tee as this fairway is very tight. A creek flows close to the green and a long hitter could bring this in to play.
For a small community course I thoroughly enjoyed my round at Markdale. I had a little trouble navigating between a few holes but there weren't that many options as to where the next tee box could be found.
The greens and fairways were as expected although the tees were a bit rough with some repair required.
I could tell from chatting to various club members that the Markdale Golf & Curling Club is a fun club to be a part of.
