The Links at Crooked Creek was originally named "The Village Green Golf Club" but a name change took place last year and new owners took over in November 2012.
All greens are reasonably large and in general, quite flat. I had difficulty reading the greens because I always wanted to add some sort of break to my putts but often it wasn't necessary. They were in good shape but I had difficulty judging speed.
There are a few minor marshy areas on the course but the only two holes where water is truly visible is on #8 and #18. For both holes, most golfers of reasonable distance won't see this water come in to play. Shorter hitters will have to loop around the outside of a pond.
Hole #9 is a very sort par 4 from all tee sets. From the tips it measures in at 257 yards which will be less than a driver for some.
Hole #12 is an interesting dogleg. I used a 3-wood off the tee and cut the corner to end up a few yards short of the green. A very risky shot on this par 4.
The course was in reasonable shape with some bare spots on fairways on a couple of holes. Hole #1 had a lot of grass clippings and we were worried that the rough (and possibly fairways) would be quite long but this was only the case on the first hole.
There were four tee boxes to choose from yet the total yardage between the two back tees and two front tees were minor. I typically hit from the nearest tee set that is over 6,000 yards. The tips measure 6,643 and the next set was 6,485. A difference of less than 200 yards. The front two tee blocks weighed in at 5,563 and 5,195 yards. I was in a quandary to choose my tee block set.
The tee colours are odd and don't match the majority of courses. Although there is no set standard, many courses follow the colour code of gold, blue, white, and red from tip to front tees. Crooked Creek has the colour set of black, red, blue, and gold. Very odd.
Another oddity is the fairway yardage markers. Although there is only one marker at 150 yards this post is coloured "red". Red is the colour for 100 yard markers.
Some direction is required to navigate the course. Everyone new to the course heads to the 10th tee to start their round.
The Links at Crooked Creek is a very typical country-style course.
