Founded in July 1963 as the Rideau Carleton Golf & Yacht Club, CGYC became a member-owned and member-operated private club in January 1967.
Governed by a volunteer board of golfing members, the club has a long history of meeting the needs and wishes of the membership by balancing fiscal responsibility with continual investment in the club. A well-managed club ensures maximum enjoyment for all members now, and well into the future.
We are located minutes from Manotick, Riverside South and Barrhaven. From downtown Ottawa, Carleton is a pleasant 30-minute drive south on Highway 416. That's just enough time to get work out of your mind as you begin to visualize that perfect tee shot.

I've been wanting to play this private course for quite some time. The conditioning of the course was superb but the layout left me wanting more.
Built in 1963, this course shows its era by the size of its greens. All were circular and a bit on the small side with very minor contours.
The entire course is flat with no elevation change making this course very walkable. Some fairways have gentle bumps that require a reduction in speed if driving an electric cart.
Long hitters can keep the driver in the bag. I only used mine three times during the round. Many par 4s were doglegs and I often felt I had to hit the ball to the 150 marker before attacking the green. The approach to many of the greens also felt very similar in view. Bunkering is minor but well positioned. This is a thinking golfers course.
If using the green tees three of the four par 3s play from a similar distance of 150 yards.
Only one hole, the par 4 3rd really brings water into play around the green. A couple of the par 3s had water near the tee but the water wasn't used as a hazard as it was too close to the tee. I would have liked to see the greens on these two holes much closer to the ponds.
I can't think of any hole at Carleton Golf & Yacht that I would consider a signature hole. Everything was nicely groomed but nothing really eye-catching.
The clubhouse was nice and offered a good meal.
