I was very surprised at how promptly Blairhampton responded to my email when I informed them at 6am of the day we planned to visit their course. Within the hour we had a response.
Blairhampton is situated just west of Minden, Ontario, about 45 minutes from Huntsville and 3 hours northeast of Toronto.
We were informed that the course was originally 9 holes (1966) and that an additional 9 holes was added 12 years ago. I would have never know as the course has filled in quite nicely.
The greens were in exceptional shape for this late in the season. A couple of smaller greens were noted on the front (#3, #5) along with two of the larger variety (#4, #8).
Blairhampton has a number of holes that stand out in my mind. #4, a short par 5 has a couple of small ponds, one on each side of the fairway which I'm sure will gather up their fair share of balls.
There is nothing easy about any of the par 3s at Blairhampton. Each one has an elevated tee. Hole #5 is over 200 yards from 3 of the 4 tee blocks so you'll most likely require a wood from the tee. Hole #7 will have you second guessing your club selection as the step-down tee deck deceive the distance.
The back nine features two back-to-back par 5s (#12, #13). Hole #13 requires a very long tee carry over a marshy area. Hole #12 has a slight dogleg right to the green and will more that likely require three shots to reach the green even for a long hitter.
Coming off the short par 3 15th you'll encounter a short uphill par 4. At a mere 240 yards this type of hole is a rarity.
After being challenged by three unique holes in a row (#15-#17) I found the finishing 18th to be a bit of a let down. Although the green can cause problems the approach from tee to green is very forgiving.
Blairhampton offers a challenge for all skill levels. From each tee set a different challenge awaits.
One of the best tips I can provide is to recommend a power cart. Walking here is for the strong of body.
