Black Bear Ridge is a traditional parkland layout designed with sweeping vistas, natural water features, and superior conditioning. With five sets of tees from 5145 to 7238 yards, golfers of any skill level will find a distance that provides them with a pleasant experience assuming that they pick a tee that suits their skill level.

About 6 years ago I played a neighbouring course of Black Bear Ridge named Trillium Wood. During my round I could see a fairway of Black Bear Ridge and vowed to play the course at some point.
The long entrance lane leads you into the parking lot at Black Bear Ridge. A number of buildings left me guessing as to which one was the pro shop but we guessed right (with the largest being the desired building).
The first hole has a beautiful elevated tee box that sets the stage for more nice holes to follow.
Black Bear Ridge is the first course that I have ever played that has a par 6. I anticipated playing this hole but failed to look at the scorecard to see which hole it was. After losing a ball on my 3rd shot on the 11th hole I assumed I had made a bogey 6. After recording my 6 on the scorecard I discovered that on the 11th hole I had scored a par. This hole is one monster from the tips at 690 yards but is mild from the white at 548.
The large greens were all in exceptional condition and the course was very well-maintained. With five tee boxes to choose from the course can be played by all skill levels. Changes are that a cart is a good option as there's a number of ups and downs. Not a significant elevation change but enough to produce a tiring round.
In areas the trees it is usually very easy to find your ball as mulch covers the ground. This is often not the case at the majority of courses.
The clubhouse at Black Bear Ridge is exceptional. In addition, for some reason, I find the course name and logo very appealing.
Black Bear Ridge is ranked in the top 100 courses in Canada by ScoreGolf and it certainly gets a thumbs up rating from me.
