Date: 2008-Jun-28 Review by Dan P
Greens were average size and rare had any contour. Aim straight, aim true.
All flags seemed to be coloured red so pin location on green was not identified.
Fairways were a little bumpy. There's been a lot of rain lately so Beckwith had pretty wet fairways.
Yardages marked in fairways by pins at the standard 200, 150 and 100 distances.
Course is fairly wide open and trees should rarely enter play.
Varying tee positions. Since Beckwith is a nine hole course there's a different set of tees for the front and back nine.
Signage for holes are not always in the best location.
Tee boxes tend to be a bit thin and narrow.
Not a lot of challenge to be found. The course is flat with very few hazards. Bunkers tend to be small, not well positioned, and are filled with coarse sand.
The par 5 8th hole, although short, at least has the flag tucked around some trees. A good drive can allow you to play a high short to reach in two.
The 9th offers a bit of water to the right of the green.
Beckwith is very reasonably priced. A great course to take the family to and a good course for a beginner.
Besides the 8th and 9th hole I can't recall a hole that could get you in trouble unless you hit a really bad shot. There's really no risk and reward options available on the course besides hole #8.
    A clean, pleasant country course.
In the pro shop the gentleman at the cash was most pleasant. He asked me whether I had played at Beckwith before and gave me a brief overview of the course. A very nice touch.
Staff out on the course were always busy and tried to stay out of your way. Lots of work was being done.
Clubhouse is small and offers the basics.
Some signage and directions were lacking. I couldn't see the tee and signage for hole #4 as it was hidden behind a tree and the trail looked to go off in another direction. After finishing hole #4 arrows pointed me through a roped of area.
There's a portable washroom at hole #5 which is rare for a nine hole course.
Beckwith is a simple country course that will service locals and cottagers well. It's probably never going to be a high traffic course so a walk-ons should be quite easy.
