Of all the courses we played in Nova Scotia in 2011 Annapolis Royal featured some of the more scenic holes. You'll love the par 3 12th. From an elevated tee you'll have a short carry of about 100 yards to the green but good club selection is imperative. The par 4 13th has a great water and mountain view.
The course is relatively short with a par 70 and 5417 from the tips. Being a course of shorter course length I found the greens to be a bit smaller than normal.
The front nine features 5 short par 4s with the longest at 314 yards. Many long hitters will be near the green from the tee. I had a miraculous 37 (3 over par) and was in heaven but reality set in on the pack and I finished with an 84. Score well on the front as the back has much greater difficulty.
The rustic charm of the course fits into the surroundings. You won't find the course to be high end calibre but it does offer an alternative to the mid to high price range of other courses in the area.
I heard from a number of people throughout our travels that the food at Annapolis Royal was second to none. I have to agree. I grabbed a club sandwich which featured cranberries to accompany the normal dressings and I have to say this extra touch really sparkled my taste buds.
I'd recommend Annapolis Royal to someone wanting a reasonably quick round of golf or a family outing. This isn't a demanding course and playing conditions were fair.
Harry or Jacqui, the owners, were a pair of the nicest hosts we've ever met.
