Choose the Tee Box For Your Skill
Sun Aug 01, 2010
Use the appropriate tees! The last two rounds of golf that I've played, each all of the men in the group in front of us chose to start from the back tees. After watching them hit I thought all six men were shorter and scored much higher than my average game. In fact, one of the men in yesterday's round was using an iron from every tee. He didn't stand a change on reaching any of the greens in regulation (except for par 3s). Needless to say, our games were far slower than they needed to be.

At some courses I've seen signage posted that identifies which tee blocks to use depending on your average score or handicap. I'd like to see a golfer's tee block assigned in the pro shop. It wouldn't take much to ask a golfer their average score or provide proof that they are capable of keeping pace from the tips.

Where were the FedexCup Leaders?
Tue Jul 27, 2010
Carl Pettersson wins the 2010 RBC Canadian Open I did a quick rundown of the current 2010 FedexCup Standings to see how many leaders attended the RBC Canadian Open. Where was Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, or even 2006-2007 winner Jim Furyk? Of the Top 20 current FedexCup leaders (as of July 25th) only 4 decided to show and one of them happened to be Carl Pettersson (who wasn't in the Top 20 before playing the RBC Canadian Open).

I have a feeling that professional golfers make far too much money and have become too pampered. The drive to be the best doesn't seem to exist the same way it did back when professional golfers needed to win to avoid sleeping in a car before their next tournament. I'm disppointed in many for the lack of attendance at this years RBC Canadian Open and hope the PGA does something to correct it.

Ontario Launches HST
Sun Jul 04, 2010
Gas taxes in Ontario before HST With the launch of the Ontario HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) it will now cost a golfer an extra 8% to play a round of golf in Ontario. As well, an extra 8% has been added to the gasoline prices.

Before the HST came into effect I took a photo at my local gas station which shows the taxes already added at the pump to be a whopping 14.7 cents per litre. Now they've adding another 8% to that figure so the province of Ontario will now receive in excess of 22 cents for every litre of gasoline purchased. Combine this with the increase in green fees and one would expect to see closures of a few struggling golf courses across the province.

It certainly indicates that golfers are doing their part in helping with the recession but at what cost?
